http://www.cameroon-today.com

Douala, Cameroon - The first ever FIFA World Cup on Africa soil is a great victory for Issa Hayatou, the current fifth president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Issa Hayatou - CAF President.

The Cameroonian has been at the head of the Confederation of African Football for over twenty-two years, since 1986.

He has headed the organization successfully through many challenges and periods of historic success and setback for the continent.

During his tenure the Africa continent has made impressive gains on the world stage of football.

The number of participating African nations have increased from 2 to 5 - a 150 increase.

Two African nations have made it to the quarter finals of the games - namely Cameroon and Senegal.

A top crown of his tenure will be a win of the FIFA World Cup by an African nation or even more impressive by Hayatou's native country's soccer team - The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

http://www.cameroon-today.com

14/06/2010 16:00
South Africa

Douala, Cameroon - Cameroon is all set to feast on Japan tomorrow Monday June 14 2010.

With the mix results in so far from Nigeria, Algeria, South Africa and the sole win of Ghana, Cameroon feels the pressure mounting for it to carry the African dream.

Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The sense on the continent is that Cameroon's Indomitable Lions have to carry the African continents color higher as they did in Italy 1990 and do even better.

With veteran goalkeeper Idriss Carlos Kameni of Espanyol and all star player Samuel Eto'o Fils of Inter the Indomitable Lions have what it takes to win a world cup.

The defensively line is equally well experienced with a good mix of young talents like Joel Matip of Schalke, Gile Binya matching up with veterans like Geremi and Rigober Song.

At the midfield line watch out for Jean Makoun, Pierre Wome and Emana.

While the Japanese look to make the best of the gain, the stakes are just too high for Cameroon and anything less than a victory will be unacceptable both in Douala and Yaounde.

Already, the Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV, reports that an international survey by International Institute BVA/WIN showed 9 in 10 Cameroonians are very keen on the FIFA 2010 World Cup, a 90 interest.

This was based on a study of close to 15,000 people from 14 nations of the world belonging to the 32 qualifying FIFA 2010 nations.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Sony are capitalizing on this heighten football fever to score points on the fight against poverty and diseases.

Reportedly, large screen televisions have been installed in the nations cities and towns for free live broadcast of eight games.

It is expected that at half time HIV AIDS awareness campaigns will be conducted.

May 4, CAMEROON GETS 2ND CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY

The Catholic University of Cameroon, Bamenda, will open its doors for the 2010-2011 academic year.

It is the second Catholic university in that country; the other is in Yaounde.

The new university will have seven faculties: business and management sciences, human and social sciences, education, civil engineering, agriculture and natural resources.

"This university is the ultimate instrument to proclaim justice and hope," said Bishop George Nkuo of the Diocese of Kumbo, during an April 10 Mass concelebrated by four bishops of the region as an official launching ceremony.

Four priests and three laypeople appointed to lead the university were sworn in, as they promised to assume their functions "with diligence, in keeping with the university canons and in the fear of God."

A matriculation ceremony, opening the university's doors, will take place Oct. 15.
